I hope folks in the USA had a good Thanksgiving holiday. It has been 4 months since I posted a blog entry. If you recall, my last entry was about my trip to Greece and Turkey. I have yet to write part 3 or the final installment. At this point, I am still determining if I will.
After returning from this trip to Greece and Turkey, I agreed to teach a class at my church, covering the journey. I had to create material for a 10-week session. While teaching this class was a wonderful and timely experience, preparing for it tapped all my bandwidth. My bandwidth in my 60s is not the same as in my youth. It seems I am more easily distracted these days. Instead of droning on about Greece and Turkey, I have decided to write about a charity to consider during this season of giving.
After the passing of my daughter Rachel, my wife and I have been searching for a way to honor her life in a meaningful way. For the past two years, we have discovered and become more involved with Hope for Haiti’s Children. Hope for Haiti’s Children is a Christian organization focused on feeding and educating children in Haiti.
I am naturally cynical and untrusting of charities. I was this way about Hope for Haiti’s children until meeting the leadership and reviewing their financial records. Hope for Haiti’s Children maintains the highest level of integrity and transparency. They have received a 4-star rating from the “Partners in Trust” Guidestar Exchange Seal. I know the leaders of Hope for Haiti’s Children, and they are all trustworthy people with tender hearts for helping those in need.
The mission of Hope for Haiti’s Children is to Nurture, Educate, and Train the underprivileged children of Haiti. Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world and is rife with violence and corruption. In addition, Haiti has been subjected to several devastating natural disasters over the past few years.
There are two ways to donate to Hope for Haiti’s Children. You can make a general donation towards developing Haiti’s infrastructure and education. You can also sponsor a child for $432 per year or $36 per month. Your gift of sponsoring a child provides tuition, school supplies, a uniform, health care, and transportation for that child. Sponsoring a child is one of the most fulfilling ways to help this effort. You can connect with your sponsored child via a photo and a letter. You also receive drawings from your sponsored child. This interaction drives a deep emotional connection with your sponsored child.
This is a time of year for considering charity. If you are looking for a credible charity that delivers a unique emotional connection, then Hope for Haiti’s Children is for you. If you have any questions about my perspective on Hope for Haiti’s Children, email me at alanrayreed@gmail.com.
Make the most of this day!
